I am an academic inheritor of the systems theory of Chinese medicine (Systems TCM) lineage founded by Prof. Zhu Shine at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am a PhD student in Basic Theory of Chinese Medicine at the School of Chinese Medicine, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (since September 2024), supervised by Prof. Ma Shuran. I completed my master's training in the same programme (2022.09–2024.08) and received my bachelor's degree in Chinese Medicine (Experimental Class) from the School of Chinese Medicine / First School of Clinical Medicine, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.

My work follows two threads: conceptual clarification within Chinese medicine theory and the biological mechanisms of seasonal disease onset. On one hand, I reinterpret classical concepts such as xing (form), qi, shen (spirit), he (harmony) and xushi jiaza (deficiency–excess intermingling) through the principles of Systems TCM. On the other, guided by tian ren xiang ying (correspondence between nature and human) and wu zang ying shi (the five zang organs responding to the seasons), I study the pineal–melatonin axis and the immune deviation it mediates in animal models of seasonal disease.

Research Interests

Correspondence between nature and human, and the five zang organs responding to the seasons
The connotation and mechanisms of wu zang ying shi; the role of pineal–MT–HPA axis–mediated Th17/Treg immune deviation in the seasonal onset of cough-variant asthma, based on the "gan ying chun" (the liver corresponds to spring) theory.

Systems theory of Chinese medicine
Interpreting foundational concepts of classical Chinese medicine through the principles of Systems TCM — non-additivity, meta-wholeness, innate human–nature unity, orderedness, organicity, functionality and autonomy; systematic clinical methods such as the yuanqi xingshen needling technique; theoretical development and modern clinical application of Systems TCM.

Research and Teaching Projects

I have participated in 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial and ministerial programmes, university key research programmes and university teaching-reform programmes, covering seasonal immune mechanisms, the transmission of senior physicians' clinical experience, and curriculum reform in Basic Theory of Chinese Medicine.

  • National Natural Science Foundation of China: Th1/Th2 immune deviation in the seasonal onset of spleen-deficiency acute eczema and the intervention mechanism of Shizhenqing Granules
  • University key programme: Biological mechanisms of pineal–MT–HPA axis–mediated Th17/Treg immune deviation in the seasonal onset of cough-variant asthma, based on "gan ying chun" theory
  • Provincial/ministerial programme: Liu Yanzhi inheritance workstation (Ma Shuran)
  • Master's–doctoral student programme: Macrophage polarisation in ulcerative colitis based on "pi e shi" (the spleen dislikes dampness)
  • University teaching-reform programme: Innovation in examination content for Chinese medicine majors — the case of the Basic Theory of Chinese Medicine course
